We are located in Bedford
Township in Michigan near the southern border with Ohio. If you
stood at the Ohio border in Toledo and hit a golf ball north with a
one iron, it would land in Bedford Twp. We currently use several vendors and manufacturers to help us build a quality product, most of which are in Ohio and Michigan. The machines are built in one location, my workshop, where all of my arcade cabinets have been built. You can see some of my previous work in the gallery. I am a Packaging Design Engineer by trade and video arcade enthusiast since the age of 8. I was lucky enough to have grown up during the 'Golden Age' of video arcade games (1985-87 is regarded as the peak). Once the market shifted away from arcades to consoles, I missed the classic arcades I grew up with. Fast forward to 1999 when I discovered MAME on the internet. For guys like me, this was a God send. Here someone has enabled us to relive the classic arcade games we grew up with and play them whenever we liked. Sometime in 2005, I came across a warehouse in Toledo that belonged to a company that used to run the old arcade I used to go to as a kid. They are still involved somewhat in arcades and had several on the floor. There was one particular cabinet that stood out to me because it was empty. It was then it occurred to me that refinishing that cabinet with computer parts, I could once again play the games as they were meant to be played, only now I could have 1000's of games with one machine. Imagine my surprise when I started researching how to do this that people have been doing this for years! At least the majority of the work had been done and I could just focus on the project at hand. The refinish took me about 2 months to complete. The result is shown below...
I laminated the cabinet after
reinforcing it, purchased the control panel and assembled with a
PC. This being my first effort, I learned a lot about the
construction and configuration of such a project.
